The Credit Union Aquatic Centre in Arborg opened again on Jun. 3 for its third season of fun and fitness. Rain or shine, it is going to be a happening place this summer, with individual, group and family activities planned for in and around the pool.
The aquatic centre offers swimming lessons, daily public swimming, an introduction to scuba class (on Jun 16), and Aquasize classes (starting at the end of July). Plus, for the skilled swimmer who wants lifeguard training, Bronze Star and Bronze Medallion/Cross training is on.
New for this year is the summer swim team, open to kids who are not part of a winter swim team.
“It’s geared toward kids that enjoy swimming and are good at swim lessons and want to do a little more,” said Tom Chwaliboga, Arborg Bifrost Recreation Centre Director.
Chwaliboga has lined up a full range of events throughout the summer, for all age groups.
Keep an eye open for events like Beach Day, Teen Evening, and Super Saturdays. Numerous Canada Day activities are planned with family entertainment. On Jun. 30 there will be a Steak Barbeque. The $15 ticket includes admission to the aquatic centre. On Jul. 16 a Caribbean band will entertain during a Hawaiian Luau. Hawaiian cuisine is on the menu, with games and activities for the whole family.
Summer programs are also taking place at the recreation centre, located adjacent to the aquatic centre. Children, aged 6 to 11, can sign up for Summer Day Camp on any week day from Jul. 4 to Aug. 11. Activities include crafts, and indoor and outdoor games.
Representatives from Sports Manitoba will pay a visit to help familiarize the children with a variety of sports; Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation (MPI) will give a talk on bicycle safety.
The aquatic centre first opened in Aug. 2009, and has made a real splash in the community. Last year over 7,000 people visited the aquatic centre that features a compact, but well-designed water park, with water slides and sprayers. The outdoor pool is heated to 80 degrees F, so is great to visit even in cooler weather.
Toonie Tuesdays, 10 day passes, or family seasonal rates are available to help those on a budget. Dads will get in free on Father’s Day, on Jun. 19.
